I started my music career in Chicago in 1970 where
I played in various bands and after two years I ran an
ad in Rolling Stone looking to relocate. I got a call from
Lawrence, KS where I still live today. As I started
playing around town and meeting new musicians the pervailing idea was to join a band and try to make it, which would end up being a regional traveling band. We then decided that we wanted to stay in one place so we formed several different bands in order to work more. Some of the early bands included Bob Wire and the Open Rangers, Lee McBee Blues Band, Magic Number, and River City Jazz Band.
Over the years I have played with Eddie Harris, Red Rodney (trumpeter with Charlie Parker), Marcus Bellgrave (trumpeter for Ray Charles), Jay McShann, Claude “Fiddler” Williams, The Platters, Eric Alexander, Cecil Payne, Gene Ramey (bass with Charlie Parker), Bobby Shew, and Henry Questa. I have also warmed-up for Muddy Waters, John Mayall, Asleep at the Wheel, Gatemouth Brown, Sonny Terry, and Brownie McGee.
I am still very active in the music community and regularly play in several bands and do solo work. My bands are listed below, please go to each page to learn more about them.
